out and about, Busy waiting to play
hello there

How big?  Looking more like puppies now – they continue to put on 100g per day!  They are properly up on their feet, with some scampering about, starting to explore the corners of the kitchen.  Busy is very excited to have playmates and is already enjoying their company.  Aura is less sure, princesses like to hog all the attention 😉

Their owners have all been to see them and we are more or less sorted with who is going where.  It’s very hard to decide and inevitably everyone likes one more than the other (can you guess?)  Choosing names is an ongoing discussion as we need a ‘set’ of Kennel names AND their pet names, which may or may not be related.  I tried to register them with the Kennel Club yesterday and have had to change one of the names as a result – we’re getting there, but if you have any suggestions, do pass them on.

I posted a video clip on Facebook the other day, but you have to ‘friend’ me in order to see it.  One day I’ll get to grips with setting up a YouTube account…  I’ve had so much wonderful feedback from the previous puppy owners – it’s great to be in touch with them to hear and see how they are getting on.  Toggle from the second litter came to visit on Sunday as he is getting a nephew to play with 😀

Yum Yum

it’s a hard life, but someone has to do it

This week they have been practising eating real food.  It’s more for fun as they still have plenty of milk at this stage.  They continue to change enormously, day by day.  Having their eyes open means they can start to be aware of their surroundings and their faces change and begin to take on a more dog-like appearance.  They are becoming more sturdy on their feet, although they are so fat that running is not yet an option.

grrr, I’m going to get you – because you taste nice

Hello world

Hello everyone
pretty girl

A spoilt princess

Eyes are opening and they are up on their feet, staggering around like drunken puppies.  They are so contented they still don’t do much, but we are just starting to see some interaction with each other and with Luna.  They are more confident in the way that they move around – they certainly know when Luna is there!  Sometimes we hear the odd little ‘woof’, but generally they are quiet – they never cry when they are hungry, because Luna feeds them so often.

We’ve had a few more visitors during the last week, which has been lovely, so they’ve been cuddled by a variety of people and are happy to have that interaction.  Aura does not like to be left out, so I have to give her a cuddle as well, which she always loves!  Remember to let me know if you would like to come and see us – the more the merrier 🙂

Growing fast..

snuggled up with the toys

These puppies are record breakers in this house; I now totally understand why having half as many offspring is a biological advantage – they are growing twice as fast!  Luna is the most brilliant mother, constantly feeding, cleaning and cuddling her puppies.

Another little snack

Luna gets rather hot in the bed, so despite having lots of comfy bedding for her and the pups to sleep on, she would rather push it to one side and sit on the paper to feed.

This has resulted in the puppies being snuggled up into, or up onto the bedding – ready to go off and explore the world?  Not just yet..

We’ve had a few visitors, despite the fact that they are not very interesting at the moment.  They really do a good impression of guinea pigs – they are the right size, nice and smooth and silky and they even squeak and grunt (although they do occasionally bark as well!)

Hello, pleased to meet you

I have realised with these puppies in particular, that handling them from such an early age is really important in making them familiar with people of all different shapes and sizes.

snuggling in

Even though they can’t see or hear yet, dogs are so reliant on smell that they do know when they are being held by someone and whether that person is familiar or unfamiliar.  They already ‘snuggle in’ and it is so nice when they do 🙂

Finally this week, I wanted to share a montage I’ve made from recent pictures of the last litter, with their parents.  This picture shows mum, dad and the five princesses.  Aren’t they beautiful?  You can see the family likenesses and how much they are all enjoying life.  Makes me very proud.

A whole family!

New Arrivals

Lined up at the milk bar

I am thrilled to announce the arrival of Luna’s second litter, once again to the gorgeous Delicious Chocolate Sundae (Oz).  They arrived on Thursday 20th November.  Two girls and two boys, all big and healthy.

The daily weigh-in

The puppies are weighed at birth and then monitored daily for the first few weeks.  This puppy is one of the biggest my girls have produced.  They all put on around 60g in the first day – pretty impressive work from Luna!

Aren’t I clever?

Luna is such a proud mother. She really loves her babies and is so pleased to show them off.  She doesn’t mind visitors (grown-ups only at this stage) but they need to be respectful – she watches carefully to see what is going on.

Cuddling up to the toys

Luna brought these toys up from downstairs; she likes to make sure that her babies have something to cuddle up to.  Since these are Busy’s toys I had to go and buy some new ones today!

Ever-attentive mother

Luna looks after her babies so well, making sure they are kept clean, although this can be quite a challenge!

pink toes peeping

So gorgeous – couldn’t you just eat them up?

PLEASE NOTE:  Visitors are needed regularly for the next eight weeks, so I shall expect to see everyone I know at least once!  Children are especially welcome once they are a few weeks old (they’re boring until then) and will be required to cuddle and play with them as much as possible.  Cake is usually available.  Please make sure you get in touch to arrange your visit(s)?

Happy 2nd Birthday Princesses!

Busy, Aura, Luna, Sunny

Three generations, four beautiful girls, wishing a very happy 2nd birthday to the princesses – Ella, Aura, Bella, Willow and Flo.  I can’t believe it is already two years since we had all the excitement of Luna’s litter arriving, a few days early and spread over two days!  Aura has grown up into the most fantastic dog.  She is incredibly friendly with people and absolutely loves children.  She is coming along brilliantly in agility and has enjoyed going to a few shows, getting a 7th rosette in an Allsorts class at the Milton Keynes show.  She has Sunny’s drive and Luna’s willingness to please – a perfect combination.

The latest litter, including Busy, were 6 months old last week, so happy half-birthday to them as well!  Busy and Aura play all day; they are such good friends.  It’s not ideal having two young dogs together, but Chris and I now have two girls each and I look forward to Chris beginning agility training with Busy in a few months’ time.

Away They Go…

Bye bye Pixie
Bye bye Boots

Finally the big day arrived when the new families came to collect the babies.  Everyone was SO excited!  They had all their equipment ready and set up and plenty of toys waiting.

Bye bye Jumble
Bye bye Tia

All the homes have been chosen carefully to provide loving, caring environments, with the right amount of stimulation and space.  Most of these homes already have a border collie (or two), so they know what to expect!

Bye bye Otto

I am sure they will keep in touch and let me know how their puppies grow and develop.  Of course if they have any problems they know they can call on me for help.

Bye bye Dexter
Lovely babies!

I wish these puppies all the very best life with their new families.  I know that they will be loved and well cared for and bring a great deal of happiness.  What a fairytale ending to the first part of their lives!

The Dentbros family

PS: We kept one!  Busy stole our hearts from the minute she was born – we think she is rather special.  Our last chance to have a daughter from our wonderful Sunny.  Breeders always say that the hardest part of breeding is finding the homes and parting with them.  I had not planned on having another puppy now, but it seems she just decided to stay.

Introducing..

Otto

They look like proper dogs now don’t they?  Isn’t it amazing how quickly they transform from guinea pigs?  They can do stuff now – they wake up and run outside to do a wee (mostly) and they come in and out when they’re called (mostly).   They are eating regularly now and sometimes practise eating on their own.

Busy
Dexter

They have had their microchips done.  Their hearing and sight were tested – all clear, which is good news.

Pixie

All that is left for me to do now is get them ready for their new homes, making sure I’ve done all the paperwork and packed up their bits.  Oh and I need to have a few more cuddles…

The Great Outdoors

The winner of the Cute Award goes to…Tia!

And they’re off!  Finally we have some nicer weather and they can play in the garden.  Mind you, they need strict supervision, if I want any of my new shrubs to remain in one piece 😉  They are helpful if you need any holes dug for planting, or really any tidying up done.

Yeah grass at last!

Last weekend all their owners visited again. They are getting really excited about bringing their new family member home and most of them had been shopping for toys and other equipment.

Pretty as a Pixie

It’s been fantastic having so many visitors to see these puppies – I reckon around a hundred people have been into the puppy palace over the past six weeks and most of those have been more than once!  I believe that this makes sure that these puppies will grow up to be people loving, friendly, confident and outgoing dogs.

Worn out

Those of you following me on Facebook (Pen Dent) will know that the puppies love sleeping under our kitchen unit and one day last week I had one pup in the run and six under the unit – I thought I’d lost them!  I leave them safely in the run when I’m out, but they love to come out and roar around the kitchen.

Photo bombing

So we have two weeks left.  This is the time for them to play with each other and with the older dogs, understanding what makes a good game and when to respect the other dog.  We also start to teach them that their teeth are sharp and can be painful.

this obviously needs a prune
Hello, I’m Aura, what’s your name?

They also start to learn that there are preferred places for toileting, so hopefully that process is easier when they get to their new homes.  During the next couple of weeks they will be microchipped and have their hearing and sight tests at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket.

Expanding horizons

snuggling

Five weeks old today and they are growing fast.  They are moving around confidently and can even run about, although they often fall over or crash into each other.

sun at last

Going outside is becoming more of an adventure and less of a terrifying experience – it won’t be long now before they start helping with the gardening 😉

They have become more playful, with each other and with toys.  They are also starting to learn that not all big dogs supply food and that some are not as friendly as others.  It is important that they learn to be polite to other dogs at an early age.

Tuggies are great
balls are fun too

Sometimes though, they just need a bit of time with their mummy.  They are tucking into plenty of real food, but they still love milk, if they can get it!
