Happy 2nd Birthday Princesses!

Busy, Aura, Luna, Sunny
Busy, Aura, Luna, Sunny

Three generations, four beautiful girls, wishing a very happy 2nd birthday to the princesses – Ella, Aura, Bella, Willow and Flo.  I can’t believe it is already two years since we had all the excitement of Luna’s litter arriving, a few days early and spread over two days!  Aura has grown up into the most fantastic dog.  She is incredibly friendly with people and absolutely loves children.  She is coming along brilliantly in agility and has enjoyed going to a few shows, getting a 7th rosette in an Allsorts class at the Milton Keynes show.  She has Sunny’s drive and Luna’s willingness to please – a perfect combination.

The latest litter, including Busy, were 6 months old last week, so happy half-birthday to them as well!  Busy and Aura play all day; they are such good friends.  It’s not ideal having two young dogs together, but Chris and I now have two girls each and I look forward to Chris beginning agility training with Busy in a few months’ time.

Ready to go –

All their bags are packed, they’re ready to go.  The princesses have almost finished their time at the Puppy Palace and will be saying goodbye this weekend. They have been really enjoying their time playing with each other and Luna, but also learning that not everyone is completely friendly – Buzz and Sunny make sure they show respect for their elders 😉  These are all important experiences for them.  I know they will soon be tormenting the other pets and children and ‘tidying up’ their gardens, chair legs, door frames and anything else left lying around!  Their families are VERY excited about welcoming them home and I am confident that they are ready for their next big adventure!

Exploring

The princesses are much more active, with long periods where they are really lively, running about, jumping on each other and Luna, having such a good time.  Then they collapse in a heap, preferably squashed up into a pile beside the lavender, outside.  They have been enjoying the sunshine and the garden, although obviously it needed some heavy pruning to look its best.  They are off to Newmarket in a little while, to the Animal Health Trust, to have their hearing and eyesight checked.  Always a bit of an adventure, but the staff are so lovely.  Not long now till they go off to their new homes – we had around 80 people through the house last week, so they’ve had plenty of cuddles!

Busy busy

Now we are finally running around, investigating what’s going on.  Shoelaces are quite interesting and we are enjoying chewing fingers, toes, legs, bits of the door, basically everything, as we have very sharp teeth.  We like running, which we can do very fast, but we are still a bit out of control.  We jump on each other and attack, grrr.  Best of all is playing with mum, she is really nice to us and only pretends to eat us.  Granny Sunny is more grumpy, but we don’t care, we like chasing her anyway.

Playtime

Week 4 and the princesses are up and about, exploring the palace inside and out.  They can run now, although they usually then fall over, often crashing into one of their sisters or falling right into their food bowl.  They now come over to say hello when I go into their room in the mornings, asking to have a cuddle by chewing my leg, which is nice.  They are not terribly interested in their delicious food, as they still much prefer milk, but since they are growing continually that doesn’t really matter.  Luna really enjoys playing with them, as you can see and she is the most patient and tolerant dog you are likely to meet.

Lunch time

Week 3 and it’s feeding time at Penny’s Puppy Palace.  The princesses are ready to try something different, although they always enjoy a good drink from mummy.  They are up and about a bit more, although still enjoying a nice long sleep.  They have met their new families for the first time over the weekend and everyone is very happy.  Now all they need are cuddles and play – oh and lots more food!

Visitors are welcome from 20th August – 21st September – please pop in for a cuddle and to watch them play, we’d like to see you.

Peeping and Sleeping

Two weeks old and eyes are opening – hello there!  They are also starting to play a little with each other and to wobble about rather than commando crawling.  Most of the time they are still just sleeping beauties.  However, these puppies seem very noisy – they like to have a time in the middle of the day when they practise their barking, woofing or squeaking. Sometimes it’s been so loud we could hardly hear the Olympics!  They have been round to see the vet today for a quick check-up, everyone is doing very well. We had to take them now as next week they won’t fit in the box, nor stay there!

Guinea Pig Impressions

One week old and they look and sound just like guinea pigs – about the same size, smooth and squeaky and snuffling away.  They are doing what they should be, growing!  All have doubled their weight in 7 days, bang on target.  They still have their eyes shut and cannot walk, but they ‘scamper’ around in a very lively fashion.

Luna is, as predicted, a brilliant mum.  She loves just hanging out with her babies, even when they are stuffed full and busy sleeping.  She makes sure they have plenty of toys to snuggle up to, bringing in all the old teddies even after I had been shopping for new pink toys.  Of course she doesn’t mind at all if they wander all over her, so although she keeps them beautifully clean, she might get some poo in her ear 😉

Princesses: The Girls have arrived!

Princess litter’s arrival

On Sunday 29th July and Monday 30th July Luna gave birth to 5 beautiful girls!  All are chocolate and white and very nicely marked, very similar to each other.  All have great homes already.  Luna has been bringing her babies some toys to cuddle up to – not that she leaves them alone, even for a minute!  They are already princesses!

Princess Delivery

This litter were not totally straightforward in their delivery. For a start, Luna went into labour five days early, so I was not really paying attention until one puppy popped out! Then after the fourth one finally came out in the middle of the night, there was a gap.

The scan had shown five puppies, so I knew there was another one. Eventually I took her to the vet, in the morning. This involved a 10 mile drive with her and the pups in the car. Fortunately my son was there to come along.

A bunch of girls

The vet gave her some oxytocin and the labour carried on, but no sign of the puppy. Finally, by lunchtime, the vet took her off to theatre for a caesarian. Just before that she told me to take her out and ‘run her about for a bit’. I did that – poor Luna! Then the vet took her off and came back 5 minutes later to say the pup had flown out into her hands! Phew, what a relief. The perfect end to the arrival of the princesses.
